This week in the saga

Iowa is two days old when he walks back into a Manhattan courtroom — the writer's second defamation trial is under way, and he attends by choice, glowering from the defense table between New Hampshire flights. Tuesday at one in the morning the young rival who folded on caucus night bends the knee. Thursday before dawn an immunity manifesto goes out in capitals. Friday in Concord the Senator who once ran against him raises his hand. Saturday night he calls the party to unify — and by Sunday afternoon the Florida governor is gone from the race and endorsing. The field that once numbered thirteen is one woman standing.
