This week in the saga
The wavelength lasts two days. Wednesday morning the mayor states publicly that his city does not and will not enforce federal immigration law, and the answer is that somebody in his inner sanctum had better explain that he is playing with fire. Thursday the central banker refuses again to cut rates and is described as a moron who is hurting the country. Friday a new chairman is nominated to replace him. Saturday afternoon the posture reverses entirely: no federal help will go to any badly run city unless and until it is asked for, and the word he requires is please. And on Monday, after four months of it, he is working to reopen the government, and hopes everyone will vote yes.
