This week in the saga
The chronicle records the five-state sweep: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island fall in a single night, and the delegate count crosses one thousand — a first-ballot crown all but prophesied. In California the sieges turn violent, fire and foreign flags at the gates of a thirty-one-thousand-strong host, while the conqueror looks on the wild sage of the other kingdom with pity. Then, for the first time, he speaks the date of the final battle aloud: 11/8.
