This week in the saga
The man who paid the money recites it back, ledger line by ledger line, and for days the defense carves at him — a convicted liar, a thief, a man selling revenge. Wednesday, in the middle of it, two debates are set inside an hour: June and September, the earliest general-election debate ever held. Friday the court goes dark and he goes to his son's graduation after all — the grievance of the trial's first day dissolved in one morning of sun. Sunday near midnight he spends eight hundred words denying that he froze onstage in Dallas. Monday the People rest their case; the defense calls two witnesses, and one of them angers the judge into clearing the room.
