This week in the saga

A quiet week on the surface and the floor gives way underneath it. Tuesday the letters go out to a dozen countries and the date is fixed with no extensions: everything is due on the first of August. Friday night, two days short of a year since the bullet, he posts eighty-six characters about why he was saved. Sunday is the anniversary itself and he marks it with a picture and no words at all — the only post of the volume so far that says nothing. And then, that same Sunday afternoon, the thing that has been building since the files were promised and not delivered finally arrives: his own people, in public, going after his own Attorney General, and him telling them they are on one team and he does not like what is happening. He is not fighting the other side this week. He is fighting the people who put him here, over a dead man he says nobody cares about.
