This week in the saga

Tuesday afternoon the sea lanes are insured by decree, and the navy will escort tankers if it has to. Thursday the domestic demand is restated with passion and at the expense of everything else, and not the watered-down version. Saturday morning the war produces the sentence the whole campaign was for: Iran, being beaten to hell, has apologized and surrendered to its neighbours, the first time in thousands of years. Saturday evening an old ally finally considers sending two carriers, and is told not to bother — we do not need people who join wars after we have won them. Sunday night the name of the bill is corrected, which he says is much better and more important. And Monday, a women's football team is about to be sent home to be killed, and he asks another country to give them asylum, and offers to take them himself.
