A week that begins with an ending. Tuesday night a whole civilization will die, he writes, and he does not want it to happen but it probably will. Wednesday the alliance is answered in capitals — they were not there, and they will not be there. Thursday the oil is not moving through the Strait the way the agreement says it should. Friday the other side is described as a man holding no cards. Saturday the empty tankers turn for American ports. And on Monday morning, at ten o'clock exactly, the United States begins to blockade the ships going in and out.
