物語
This week in the saga
Election night. One wing of the government falls to the other side even as another holds, and he claims the whole night as a tremendous success. But the lost chamber means subpoenas: if they investigate him, he warns, two can play that game. With odd grace he concedes the old rival her prize, saying she has earned the Speaker's gavel — then, the morning after, settles an old score as his attorney general is pushed out and a new acting chief named. And as close counts drag on he cries fraud, votes appearing out of nowhere days after the election. The chapter ends with the shield of Congress broken and the subpoenas coming.
