On the third of August the candidate he endorsed in Ohio's Fifteenth wins by a landslide, and the office publishes five separate papers about it in three days — the win, the media that expected a loss, the senator who spent a million dollars on somebody else, and twice more besides. On the fourth it publishes the Texas defeat as a victory too: both candidates were Republicans, so the win was his either way. By the ninth it is reprinting an article that calls him the kingmaker. The proof the machine works arrives in the same form as everything else now: paper, carried in by hand, read under a lamp.
