The week the ground finally shifts, and none of it is his doing. The company that took away the largest room he ever spoke in reports that its daily audience has fallen for the first time in its history. The executive who ran the network he fought with for six years is terminated, and the exile marks it with a joke about the air quality. His former deputy states publicly that he never had the power to alter the count — the plainest contradiction of the whole argument, from the one man who was standing there — and the answer goes out the same day on letterhead. Then his party's own committee formally censures the two Republicans sitting on the January the sixth committee, and he sends congratulations. He still cannot reach the count. The party he reaches without getting up from the desk.
