Wednesday the court filings lengthen the inventory of what left the house — his medical file, his tax records, privileged papers; days of the Soviet Union, he says. Thursday the world stops for a queen, and he bows his head with everyone else. But the mourning pauses nothing: the same day, the hunters appeal the judge's shield, and he answers with both barrels — they leak, they lie, they plant evidence, and they ask him to trust them.
