This week in the saga

The last chapter opens the way the war has run all year: with a helicopter down over the waterway on Tuesday, and a promise that the United States must, of necessity, respond. By Wednesday the other side's military is a complete and total mess and the blockade is a steel wall that nothing gets through. Thursday he is hitting them very hard tonight — and then, hours later, he is not: the discussions have gone to the highest level and been approved, and the strikes are cancelled by the same hand that ordered them. Friday the leaked terms are called a lie. And on Sunday evening it is done. He opens a sea by post.
