In the seventh week the rivals flew west to kneel before the Koch gold, and he alone stayed unbought, naming them puppets. In the dark he heard for the first time the unseen army he calls the silent majority. Then, with a calm too gentle to trust, he smiled toward Cleveland, where ten podiums waited for first blood.
