The chapter opens on a new kind of enemy — not a rival with a name, but the unseen source. He declares that anything anonymous is simply fiction, then turns on the great search engine for rigging its results against him and on the printed page for the fictional books written about him. At the rallies the old slogan turns forward: making the country great again is already morphing, he says, into keeping it great. And across the city an old rival is laid to rest in a cathedral — the one gathering to which the king was not invited — and he watches from outside, alone, while inside his own house someone prepares to betray him.
