This week in the saga

On the twenty-fourth of August the office launches a commercial. On the twenty-sixth a bomb at the airport gate in Kabul kills thirteen American service members and some hundred and seventy Afghans, and the cases come home to Dover on the twenty-ninth. Thirty-three papers go out from the office this week. In the four days after the gate, the ones that are actually about it are two lines pointing at articles other men wrote — one in a New York paper, one in Breitbart — and a reprinted sentence from the father of a dead Marine. Our Country has never been so diminished, another paper says, in twelve words. It has reached an all-time low.
