This week in the saga

On the seventh of September the office publishes four papers in a morning. One crowns a candidate for secretary of state in Michigan. One announces a rally in Perry, Georgia, and another a rally in Des Moines, Iowa. The fourth explains why a sitting senator from Pennsylvania is not running again: because I would not give him an endorsement. That is the week's discovery, and it is the chapter's whole thesis — the crown withheld does as much work as the crown given, and it costs a sheet of paper either way. On the eleventh, twenty years on, he speaks at dusk on open ground to a few hundred people. On the thirteenth he writes that the Big Lie is the election of 2020.
