Forty-five papers in seven days, more than any week since the ban. Four endorsements go out on the fifth, the Senate leader is told he is folding on the sixth, and on the eighth a letter goes to the National Archives to keep the records of his own presidency away from a committee of the Congress. Then Iowa. He lands on the ninth and publishes eleven words about the weather; that night the field at Des Moines is the largest crowd he has stood in front of since the ban, and for one panel the camera goes back under him where it used to live. The audit could not produce a vote. The field produces itself.
