Rally season becomes a war map. Nevada on Saturday, Arizona on Sunday — the machine rolls west, crowning candidates in every territory, while a caravan of cars and flags circles the sea fortress and he watches from the glass, calling it a beautiful sight. Past midnight the desert slides by the car window, the roar of the evening behind him. But the map has a third color: the old leader of his own party's Senate is spending nine million dollars against one of his chosen, and the war is not only red and blue.
