This week in the saga

A week of waiting, played as comedy and prophecy. He offers the special counsel a better case — the powder at the White House — and on Thursday that case closes, unsolved, eleven days old, while his own cases only multiply. The same afternoon he writes the week's true sentence: he is so far ahead in the polls that another indictment and arrest must be coming down the tracks very soon. Saturday night the young crusade crowns him with eighty-five in a hundred. The tracks run south, toward Washington and Atlanta.
