This week in the saga

Fifteen states vote on Tuesday; fourteen fall to him, and past midnight the thank-yous roll out state by state like a drumroll. By Wednesday morning the last rival is out of the race, her voters invited aboard before her plane is cold. Thursday night the rival president shouts through the State of the Union while he counter-programs it live from his phone, post by post; by Friday he pronounces the speech panned — and that same day the party elects his people to run its machinery, the daughter-in-law among them. The sweep is total: the votes, the party, the argument.
