This week in the saga

A week framed by the dead. DONARUDO opens it defending the veterans' gold before the sneering chorus, and the speaker of the party's house finally bends the knee — even as his followers are ambushed in the streets of San Jose and the flag burns. In the small hours the champion of the ring passes, and the week closes among the white crosses of Normandy, the realm unified on paper and burning underneath.
