This week in the saga

The chapter closes under siege: the bureau that cannot find its own leakers, the conservative faithful on their feet in a ballroom, and an empty spotlit chair at the press corps' dinner — the first refusal in decades. On the last night he stands at a lit window in the snow, telling the country the Russia talk is fake news, telling himself the storm is passing. In seven days, before dawn, he will accuse the old king of tapping his tower.
